The Notarial Committee of the Scriveners Company and the Society of Scrivener Notaries were pleased to host the 2019 Lecture. There were two speakers:

Siri Nomme, Head of Diversity and Inclusion, EMEA, Norton Rose Fulbright LLP, who spoke on notaries’ professional obligations with regard to diversity and inclusion as set out in Chapter 8 of the Notaries’ Code of Practice. She also focused on the implications for the notarial profession of the Equality Act 2010 and the need for notaries to take account of its provisions in the fields of staff and notarial trainee recruitment, and career progression.

Marc Geleijns, a Dutch notary based in Roosendaal, the Netherlands, who is President of the UINL’s International Task Force Civil Law / Common Law; he is a member of the General Council of the UINL and an affiliate member of the ‘Institut de recherches et d’études notariales européen’ (IRENE). He is also the representative for the Dutch Notarial Professional Organisation with the UINL in its European Affairs Commission. He spoke on notarial aspects of the European regulations on matrimonial property regimes and registered partnerships.

The evening finished with a drinks reception and an opportunity for informal discussion.


The lecture evening was accredited with 2 points for the purpose of the Notaries (Continuing Professional Education) Regulations 2010.
