Quill Pen Lunch at Mansion House, Nov 2017

At Mansion House on 21 November, the Master presented The Rt Hon The Lord Mayor, Alderman Charles Bowman, with the quill pen which he used to sign himself into office. He also presented him with a pair of goblets commemorating the 400th anniversary of the Scriveners’ Royal Charter and the Lady Mayoress, Mrs Samantha Bowman, with a Scriveners’ fountain pen.

Autumn Dinner at Painters' Hall

Admiral Sir Trevor Soar KCB OBE DL was the principal guest at the Autumn Dinner at Painters’ Hall on 11 October. Other guests included the Masters of the Worshipful Companies of Tallow Chandlers, Spectacle Makers, City of London Solicitors, Marketors, Chartered Secretaries, the Honourable Company of Master Mariners, Past Master Colin Goodman of the Painter-Stainers and Mr Murray Craig, Clerk to the Chamberlain’s Court.


New Master and Wardens installed on HQS Wellington


The Master for 2017/18, David Philip FCA, was installed in the Court Room on HQS Wellington on Tuesday 18 July, following a Court Meeting earlier. Also installed were the new Upper Warden, Edward Gardiner, and the new Renter Warden, Valerie Hamilton JP. Richard Saville was reinstalled as Notarial Deputy and Iain Rogers was reinstalled in absentia as Education Officer.


Quill Pen Reception and Recital at St Lawrence Jewry


Our Quill Pen Reception for the Sheriffs was expanded in this anniversary year to include Masters, Past Masters and Clerks of 44 other livery companies (tallying neatly with our number in the order of precedence) as well as other guests and prizewinners. The event took place at the Guild Church of St Lawrence Jewry on 28 February 2017.


Anniversary Dinner at Stationers' Hall


The Scriveners celebrated the 400th anniversary of the granting of our Royal Charter by James I with a special service at our guild church, St Martin-within-Ludgate, followed by a Dinner at Stationers' Hall on 26 January 2017. The service was led by the Hon Chaplain, Revd Michael Lovegrove, and the Very Revd Dr David Ison, Dean of St Paul's, gave the sermon. The St Paul's chorister who is supported by the Company, Benedict King, sang a solo anthem.
