The Master for 2017/18, David Philip FCA, was installed in the Court Room on HQS Wellington on Tuesday 18 July, following a Court Meeting earlier. Also installed were the new Upper Warden, Edward Gardiner, and the new Renter Warden, Valerie Hamilton JP. Richard Saville was reinstalled as Notarial Deputy and Iain Rogers was reinstalled in absentia as Education Officer. The Immediate Past Master, Julia Hett, was presented with her Past Master's badge, and tribute to her year of office was paid by the new Master.
The Hon Chaplain, The Reverend Michael Lovegrove, stood down from that office and the new Hon Chaplain, The Reverend Steven Brookes, was warmly welcomed. Michael Lovegrove was presented with a hand-painted icon of St John dictating the gospel to a scribe: this was to mark the occasion of his last Court Meeting as Chaplain; and the icon, the new badge on the Master's gown, and the Company's work in the year ahead were blessed by Reverend Brookes. A reception to thank Michael Lovegrove for his ten years' service as Hon Chaplain will be held in the Autumn on a date to be announced. All Scriveners will be welcome to attend.
This installation ceremonial, to which Scriveners and their guests were invited, was then followed by a Summer Reception on the quarterdeck and a buffet supper.
Three new Liverymen were cloathed in the gown of the livery: Leslie Cuthbert, Katherine Lyons and Dominic Cheetham.
