“The future of the continental notary”

The Notarial Committee of the Scriveners Company, with the support of the Society of Scrivener Notaries, is pleased to be hosting the annual Wilfrid Phillips Notarial Lecture. The lecture will take place on Thursday 16th June 2016 at the City Business Library, Guildhall.

The principal guest speaker will be Nora van Oostrom, a member of the international law firm Nauta Dautilh and a highly respected authority on notarial matters.

The evening will finish with a drinks reception and an opportunity for informal discussion.

Introduction and welcome by Edward Gardiner, Chairman of the Notarial Committee and Notarial Deputy of the Worshipful Company of Scriveners.

Principal Guest Speaker - Nora van Oostrom, a member of the International Law Firm, Nauta Dutilh and an advisor in notarial matters particularly relating to the rules concerning notarial duties. Aside from her activities with NautaDutilh Nora is the official spokesperson of the Dutch Society of Notaries, a deputy-judge in the superior court in Arnhem, executive manager of The Law Firm School and an editor of various legal journals. Nora was previously professor of notarial law at the University of Utrecht and is a frequent guest lecturer and speaker at conferences. Nora will provide her personal view on the future of the notary on the European continent as well as the general state of the continental legal profession with particular emphasis on the changes which resulted from the Dutch Notary Act of 1999 and how such changes could be mirrored in the UK and elsewhere.

Discussion Panel - the evening’s principal speaker and other guests will conduct an open discussion on the issues raised during the lecture.

The lecture evening has been accredited with 2 points for the purpose of the Notaries Continuing Professional Education Regulations 2010.
